Campus Information

  • Throughout the month, you will discover a variety of services available to assist you in meeting your personal needs. The following information is designed to help you adjust to your new surroundings at the SFOT The Introduction to Campus Living Orientation will answer any unanswered questions you may have.

    Dry Cleaning

The School for Officer Training currently utilizes Pro Cleaners as our service cleaners. The details of dry cleaning will be covered during Introduction to Campus Living and can be reviewed prior to the class in the Cadet Handbook. However, should you need dry cleaning prior to Introduction to Campus Living, the Cadet’s laundry room is located in the basement of the Cadet Dining Room. Cadets should complete a laundry ticket which they will place, along with their dry cleaning, in one laundry bag.

    Cadet Storage

In the basement of each residence, there is a cadet storage area. In your general information letter, you received your assigned storage area. To assist you in locating your storage unit, your unit has been clearly marked with your name. Campus storage is extremely limited.

    Bike Area

Bike racks are provided in the basement of Marshall Hall. We ask that you place an identification name tag on all bikes belonging to your family. This will aid us in identifying bikes that are left out after dark.

    Furniture

Please know that all furnishing items are to remain in your quarters. If you wish to store personal furnishing items you will not be using, they must be placed in your quarter’s storage or assigned bin. If you live in Marshall Hall or Noble Hall, and have bunk beds, they MUST remain assembled. If there are circumstances which would necessitate the removal of furniture, please clear this through Captain Jamie Bell in the Home Department.

    Laundry Facilities

Each residence is equipped with laundry facilities. Arkwright laundry facility is located in the basement. Schoenbaum laundry facility is located in the basement. Marshall Hall has two laundry facilities on each floor. Noble Hall laundry facility is located in the basement.

Enclosed in your welcome packet is a family Mac-Gray Laundry card. This card acts as a prepaid credit card. To credit money to your card, simply follow the directions posted on the Mac-Gray machine located in the Lanier Activity Center. If you find that a machine is not working, we ask that you submit this information to Captain Jamie Bell via Lotus Notes. Please do not call the 1-800 number on the machines, as service calls must be placed through the Home Department.

    Linens

Since the majority of Cadets prefer to use their own bedding, bedspreads are not provided in the dorms. However, we do have a supply of bedspreads in the event that you do need bedding. Please contact the Home Department for any bedding needs.

    Keys

If you lose your apartment or mailbox key, you will need to contact Bob Bullock in the Maintenance Department to purchase a replacement key at a cost of $10.00 per key. If you lose your key after hours, you may contact Captain Jamie Bell for assistance.

    Cleaning Supplies

Each quarters has been stocked with cleaning supplies. In addition, the quarters in Marshall Hall and Noble Hall are equipped with a mop, broom and vacuum cleaner. The basement of the Powell Administration Building is affectionately known as “The Dungeon.” This is the location where all cleaning supplies are stored for the SFOT Campus, including your living quarters. Should you need cleaning supplies and paper products for your apartment, you may secure these items from the dungeon. When securing supplies, please check out your supplies by recording what you take on the computer in ‘The Dungeon’. Please take only the items that you need for your apartment. The supply cage is opened each morning from 7:30 – 8:00 am and during work scholarship.

    Cadet Dining Room

The Cadet Dining Room is open seven days a week as outlined below. Many memorable experiences are created around the tables in the Cadet Dining Room. If you have a scheduled appointment approved by Health & Wellness, bring the approved form to the Transportation Department as soon as approved, and a vehicle will be reserved for your use. But remember, your appointment must be approved through Health and Wellness before Transportation will reserve a vehicle for you. If you brought your personal vehicle, you are required to use it for all personal appointments such as doctors, dentist, or counseling.

    Trash

The trash dumpster is located between Marshall Hall and Noble Hall. You are responsible for disposing of your own trash. Please do not place the trash from your quarters in the trash bins located at your housing unit; take the trash from your quarters to the trash dumpster. In addition, please help keep these areas clean by picking up drops and spills when dumping your trash. The compactor can be activated by pushing in on the key that is located in the panel box to the left of the compactor.

    Telephone Service

All rooms are equipped with telephones. You can call from room-to-room and most places on campus by dialing the extention. For room-to-room calls, the extension is the last three digits of the room phone number.

In order to make a local call within the Atlanta area, press 9 to obtain an outside line. Please note that all local calls are free and require the dialing of the area code and the 7-digit phone number. If you desire to make a long distance call, a credit card or phone card must be used.

    Van Sign-Outs and Rental

Vans are available for use by Cadets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In order to reserve a van, there must be a minimum of six Cadets signed up for the van. In addition, the destination location must be listed for the sign-out.

Van rentals are available most every weekend at the SFOT at a cost of $25.00 for the day and $15.00 for half a day. Half day rentals are allowed 25 miles and 50 miles for the whole day. However, if you go over the allotted miles, then you will be charged .51 cents per mile. Vans are rented through the Transportation Office on Fridays from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. (The time may change as needed). The keys and a gas card are placed in the Cadet mailboxes on Friday afternoon by 4:30 pm. On holiday weekends vans can be rented for the whole weekend. There will be a $5.00 late fee for vans and keys that are returned late.

Please refer to the Cadet Handbook for the complete guidelines regarding van rentals.

    Vehicle Parking

Parking of vehicles will be allowed only in designated areas. There is no parking in fire lanes, reserved parking areas or any other parking lot on campus not designated Cadet parking. Any violation for parking in an unauthorized location for longer than 1 hour will result in a $5 fine with a notice being sent to the Business Office. A continuing problem could result in a towing of the vehicle at the expense of the Cadet. Deviation from this policy is permissible only by the Transportation Officer with approval by the Assistant Principal for Training/Business Administrator (Failure to pay fines will result in the suspension of all driving privileges).

    Satellite Service

The SFOT provides satellite television service in all apartments. The channels are open (no blocking) and, therefore, subject to some inappropriate material. Please use personal judgment and supervision to protect children.

The SFOT maintains two channels for in-house programming (channels 3 & 56). You will find various programs on these channels. Generally, channel 3 is used for chapels and videos to be viewed for class. Channel 56 is used for additional class materials and family / children’s movies when available.
