As important as classroom education is to the development of knowledgeable and capable officers who can administer a working Salvation Army Corps office, outreach, and program, hands-on training is also a vital part of their growth into the critical role of pastoring and leading a Corps and community.

The Field Training program breaks down both the first and second year Sessions into multiple Brigades, and assigns those teams of Cadets to various Metro Atlanta Corps – to get their hands dirty, to interact with real Corps people and programs, and to hone their leadership, pastoring and teaching skills in a true Salvation Army environment. Led by Staff Officers, the Brigades prepare for their ministry opportunities throughout the week, then fan out each Wednesday evening during the College term.
